Nestor Paces Field at 103rd Open Championship Qualifier at Preakness Hills CC
WAYNE, N.J. – Kyle Nestor fired a 4-under par, 68 to claim medalist honors in the third qualifying round for the 103rd Open Championship presented by Donnelly Industries at Preakness Hills Country Club on Monday. After a weather delay that forced play to be suspended, play resumed on Wednesday morning, concluding qualifying, and advancing eight competitors to the championship at Hackensack Golf Club.
A rainy, overcast day created tough conditions and led to two, extended weather delays. Nestor, the Assistant Golf Professional at Preakness Hills, used his familiarity of the course to his advantage on his way to besting the field by four strokes.
"It was definitely a bit of advantage being the home course and all. Being here for eight or nine years definitely helps," Nestor said. "But, it was a lot of fin out there today. A couple of stops here and there but we got it done."
Teeing off the 10th hole, Nestor would shoot four-under par, 32, through his first nine holes, getting off to a hot start on his home track.
"I hit it really good. Having Jared on the bag definitely helped with some reads and we got a few to fall in the hole," Nestor said.
Nestor and seven others now advance to the 103rd Open Championship at Hackensack Golf Club from July 24-26.
The fourth and final qualifying round for the 103rd Open will take place at Cherry Valley Country Club on Thursday, June 29.
